(Director of Photography: Terminator Salvation, Drumline, Need for Speed, Into the Badlands (TV) and more)
Directors of Photography Yuri Neyman, ASC and Vilmos Zsigmond, ASC founded Global Cinematography Institute in 2011 with a mutual passion for sharing their knowledge and experience with the next generation of Cinematographers, and helping young DPs prepare for the ever-evolving future of the craft through teaching Expanded Cinematography®. Few other Cinematographers share this passion for education on the same level as our newest Guest Instructor, Cinematographer Shane Hurlbut, ASC, who will be joining GCI as a Guest Instructor in a future session of Expanded Cinematography® Courses. Some of Shane’s credits as Director of Photography include: Terminator Salvation, Drumline, Need for Speed and The Greatest Game Ever Played. Recently, he has shot the hit AMC show Into the Badlands.
In addition to Shane’s work as Cinematographer, he operates the outstanding Hurlbut Visuals online publication – one of the leading global resources in education for Cinematographers in all areas of the craft. Shane’s Inner Circle contains many articles, videos, links, etc. all designed to help DPs better understand their craft through an aesthetic, technical and personal approach.
For all students of Cinematography at an amateur or professional level, Global Cinematography Institute highly encourages their students to utilize the vast amount of knowledge and resources available on Shane’s Inner Circle, Shane’s advanced community of education for Cinematographers who are looking to dive deeper into hands on knowledge of the craft.
At Global Cinematography Institute, students are expected to have a working knowledge and level of experience as a Cinematographer in order to best take advantage of the new opportunities in Expanded Cinematography®. Few resources online are able to prepare students for GCI courses better than the articles, videos and guidance available online through Shane’s Inner Circle.
At GCI, students get hands-on experience and instruction with industry standard camera and lighting equipment, culminating in a Practical Lighting Workshop, where each student will work as a DP on a professional soundstage, leading a crew and shooting a narrative scene on the GCI Practical Set. The dailies then get screened in class, with guidance and feedback from GCI Founding Partner Yuri Neyman, ASC. To better prepare for this “real-world” exercise, students can study online with Shane’s Inner Circle and come ready to maximize their Expanded Cinematography® experience in Los Angeles.
